LitecoinPool.org, Litecoin’s oldest pool which has been mining Litecoin since October 21, 2011, celebrated its 8th birthday earlier this month. ‘Pooler’ the pools founder and operator posted a message to the site commemorating the event stating:
“Today we are celebrating LitecoinPool.org’s eighth birthday! As some of you may remember, the pool was officially launched on November 5, 2011, just three weeks after the Litecoin network went live (by the way: Happy 8th birthday, Litecoin!).
Over this past year, our miners have computed the astronomical number of one sextillion (1021) hashes. To all those who enjoy (or have enjoyed) mining with us, we’d like to say a big thank you! Here’s to the next year and the future of Litecoin!”
LitecoinPool (LP) has been instrumental in growing and supporting the Litecoin network. Under the leadership of Pooler the site has flourished and at numerous points becoming so popular, new registrations had to be closed down to avoid the potentiality of a 51% attack. As of right now, LP is the second largest pool comprising 17.8% of the networks hashrate 31.1 TH/s.
Over the eight years of operation, LP has attracted over 42,000 miners to its shores and has mined 194,028 blocks paying out over Ł7,000,000 which by todays prices is valued at an astonishing $420,000,000. To date LP has done 2,164,919,119 TH worth of work.
“LitecoinPool.org was started shortly after the birth of Litecoin by Pooler(…). Since the very start, the pool used ad-hoc software: Pooler wrote the front end entirely from scratch, with security and efficiency in mind, while the mining back end was originally a heavily-modified version of Jeff Garzik’s pushpool. After two weeks of intensive testing, on November 5, 2011 the pool opened its doors to the public, becoming the first PPS pool for Litecoin.”
Despite being less public than other developers, Pooler has remained steadfast in his commitment to the Litecoin Project as a member of the core development team, contributing and writing code as well as maintaining other infrastructure such as Electrum-LTC alongside LP.
Happy Birthday Litecoin Pool 🥳
